Reiki FAQs
-
The mainstream Reiki lineage that most practitioners are taught today was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui who was from Japan. “Reiki” is universal life force energy which is inherit in everything that holds life, such as people, animals, and plants. This energy is always pure, positive, and beneficial, never harmful. This energy also has an intelligence to it, especially when it comes to helping and healing. The concept of “Reiki” isn’t unique to Japanese traditions. This concept of energy traces back to ancient periods of other cultures such as from Chinese and Indian traditions. However, the practice of Reiki as an energy healing modality is uniquely Japanese.

You can receive Reiki for any reason, at any age, and almost for any circumstance. For simple self-care to deep healing, Reiki will meet you where you’re at.
You do not need to believe in Reiki in order to receive Reiki. As long as you’re open to Reiki, then your energetic field will accept this energy. Reiki operates on an individual’s consent to be received.

A Reiki practitioner is someone who has been trained in at least Reiki Levell II or above, as this is the traditional standard within the Reiki teachings and community. Reiki Levell II or above attunes the practitioner to effectively channel Reiki to others and teaches ethical business practices which equips someone to professionally offer Reiki services.
Reiki practitioners directly channel Reiki to their client through intention and hands on work. They do not channel their own energy to their client.

During an in-person Reiki session, the practitioner’s hands should either be placed gently on neutral areas of your body or be hovering over your body, depending on what you’re comfortable with. You, as the recipient of Reiki, will be lying or sitting down in a relaxed state during the session. You can compare this experience to that of a massage but without physical manipulation of your body.
I like to have my clients set an intention for themselves before I start giving them Reiki. The intention can be specific or broad. Why I think this is important is because energy is influenced and amplified by thoughts and emotions. So if there is particular healing to be done, setting the intention is helpful. Because Reiki is never harmful, “negative” intentions will not be of any influence.
Often times, recipients of Reiki feel relaxed, calm, and refreshed. However, it is normal to feel emotional if that is what your mind or body needs to release.
